SA Universities Without Application Fee

1. University of Free State

The University of Free State (UFS) is a university in Bloemfontein, South Africa. It was established as a tertiary education institution in 1918 and is one of the largest universities in South Africa.

The University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. The university has produced many notable alumni, including prominent politicians, artists and academics.

The UFS has an excellent reputation in research and innovation; it currently holds five stars (the highest possible score) on its teaching quality assessment framework (TEQSA).

2. University of Venda

The University of Venda is a public university located in Thohoyandou, Limpopo. It was established in 2004 and has five campuses: Mankweng, Mahwelereng, Masakaneng and Makhado.

The university has over 20 000 students enrolled for over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees offered by its 12 faculties: Arts‚ Education‚ Engineering and Technology‚ Health Sciences‚ Humanities/Education‚ Law‚ Science (Arts and Physical Sciences) as well as Economic Development Studies (EDS).

3. Tshwane University of Technology

TUT is a public university in Pretoria, South Africa. It has more than 12,000 students and offers more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. TUT is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

4. Vaal University of Technology

Vaal University of Technology is a public university in Gauteng province, South Africa. It was founded in 2004 and has campuses in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging and Evaton that offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

The Vaal University of Technology is one of the largest universities in South Africa with over 21000 students enrolled per year. The university offers both vocational training as well as research degrees at different levels ranging from certificate to PhD level.

It provides opportunities for learners to gain skills which will enable them to participate actively in the global labour market while also providing support towards further studies at university level or other higher education institutions such as Polytechnics or Colleges where they can acquire advanced knowledge and skills that are required by employers.

5. Walter Sisulu University for Technology and Science

  • The university is located in Mthatha, a city on the eastern coast of South Africa.
  • It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
  • The university has a total of 6 faculties (or departments): Engineering Sciences; Management Sciences; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences; Humanities and Behavioural Sciences; Applied Technology.
  • It has 13 schools (or divisions): Agriculture and Environmental Management School; Architecture School; Biosciences School; Chemical Engineering School; Civil Engineering School; Computer Science, ICT & Mathematics School; Electrical Engineering School ; Geological Surveying & Mineral Resources Development Centre ; Geography & Environmental Studies School ; Information Technology School ; Mechanical Engineering & Design Thermal Systems Unit (); Metallurgy & Materials Science Innovation Centre (); Mining Engineering Department ().
