Public Colleges In Gauteng Funded By NSFAS (2024)

If you are a South African student, you can fund your university fees from NSFAS. However, there are a number of public colleges in Gauteng which do not qualify for funding by NSFAS. This is because these colleges charge too high or too low fees and do not fall within the guidelines of NSFAS funding.

University of Johannesburg

The University of Johannesburg is a public university located in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. It was formed in 2005 with the merger of three separate institutions: the University of the Witwatersrand, the Rand Afrikaans University and Technikon Witwatersrand.

University of Pretoria

University of Pretoria is a public university located in Pretoria, South Africa. It is the oldest university in South Africa, and the largest in terms of student enrollment and curriculum offered.

The institution was initially founded as the South African School of Mines and Technology on October 30th 1890 during the late 19th century gold rush along with other mining colleges such as Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (Fet College) , Stellenbosch University, University of Witwatersrand (Wits), Rand Afrikaans University(RAU).

This was followed by an 1891 act that enabled it to be established as Transvaal Technical Institute under its own council. The institute became part of a larger process that sought to build educational institutions across South Africa which were modernized versions that conformed to British standards at both primary school level (elementary schools) and secondary school level (secondary schools).

Tshwane University of Technology

TUT is a public university that was established in 2004. It is located in Pretoria, Gauteng and its main campus covers an area of 524 hectares. TUT also has two satellite campuses known as the University Centre (UC) and Technology Park (TP), which are situated in Centurion and Midrand respectively.

The university offers various programmes ranging from undergraduate degrees to postgraduate studies; these include:

University of South Africa

University of South Africa is a higher education institution in South Africa. The university was originally established as the South African School of Mines and Technology on October 30, 1896. In 1918, it became a fully fledged college and was renamed University College Johannesburg. It received its current name in 1918.

University of South Africa is a public university, which means that it is funded by the government through tax revenue or student fees (or both). Public universities are more affordable than private universities because they do not charge for tuition fees; instead, they receive funding from the state or federal government based on how many students attend each year (and therefore how much money those students bring into their pockets). Central Johannesburg College

Central Johannesburg College is a public college. This means that it is funded by the government and run by the state. In this case, Central Johannesburg College is funded by NSFAS and operates under the Gauteng Province Education Department.

Central Johannesburg College, also known as CJC, has been around since 1968 when it first opened its doors on 1 July of that year. The institution was founded by Mr Ralph Conroy who wanted to create an alternative educational option for people living in South Africa’s largest city who did not have access to higher education opportunities due to financial constraints or other reasons such as race or gender discrimination (which was widespread at this time).

CJC has grown over time from one campus located at Marlboro House in Hillbrow into three campuses across different parts of this vibrant city today: Braamfontein Campus (opened 1992), Bramley Campus (opened 2005) and Maryland Campus (opened 2013).

Damelin (Pty) Ltd t/a Damelin (Randburg)

Damelin is a private college offering courses in Information Technology, Business Administration, Engineering and Media Studies. It has two campuses – the main campus in Randburg and another one in Sandton – as well as numerous training centres throughout South Africa. The college has over 15 000 students from across the country and offers them Nsfas funding through its branch called ADS Financial Services. If you are interested in applying for Damelin funding, you will need to complete an application form which will be sent to them by your university or employer.

The Independent Institute of Education t/a Varsity College (Sandton)

Varsity College is a private tertiary institution in South Africa. The Independent Institute of Education (IEE) was established in 1999 and has since grown to become one of South Africa’s leading providers of quality private education. Varsity College is a member of the IEE or Independent Institute of Education which offers a wide range of courses at all levels, including primary school level through to postgraduate degrees and diplomas.
