North West University Applications For 2022
The University requires all applicants to take the National Universities Placement Tests (NWU-PET) and the National Universities Admission Tests (NWU-VERTO). These tests are compulsory for all applicants who wish to be considered for admission at NWU. The results of these tests will be used as a guide in your application, but they will not be used as a basis for selection of candidates. Your academic performance in high school and previous academic performance will not be taken into account while marking these tests.
The NWU has a number of programmes that require applicants to write a compulsory test in the language of learning and teaching (LOLT) of the programme they apply for. The LOLT for a particular course is the language in which instruction is given at that course.
The list below shows which courses require applicants to write an LOLT test and what these tests look like:
- BSc (Honours) Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Statistics – English;
- BCom Accounting – English;
- BA Business Management – English;
- LLB (Hons) Law – Afrikaans or Setswana;
- BComm Marketing – IsiXhosa/Setswana/English
All applicants who wish to study at NWU’s Mafikeng campus must pass Setswana as either a home or first additional language.
Setswana is the official language of the North West Province, making it one of three national languages in South Africa and Africa as a whole alongside Afrikaans and English. It is also the primary language of instruction at NWU’s Mafikeng campus, where all students are required to take a compulsory course in Setswana during their first year.
To apply for admission to the North West University, applicants must first register and register at www.nwu.ac.za/applyonline.
In order to be able to apply online, you must first log in or create an account with your name and email address by visiting www.nwu.ac.za/applyonline and clicking on ‘Register for Online App’. You will then be asked for a four-digit password which you will use every time you log in from now onwards until you change it again either through the login page or by calling on 0861 45 00 40 during working hours (8:00am – 5:00pm). Once this has been done successfully, click on ‘Apply Now’ under ‘Your Application’.
If there is no current vacancy at NWU Vaal available for an academic year but there are still vacancies at other campuses close by, we recommend applying directly at these campuses rather than waiting until next year when they may not have any vacancies left open as well – especially if it is your first choice!
