Social grants South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced that the new R350 social grant will be paid from April 1. The process of reapplying for SASSA grants has begun in South Africa. These social grants include the old age, disability, care dependency and war veterans’ grants. All beneficiaries who currently receive a grant must reapply to qualify for the new grant of R350 per month.
Those who will turn 60 years of age before the payment date are advised to apply immediately. These applications may not be submitted at a SASSA office, post office or online. In March 2022, the current list on which beneficiaries receive grants will expire and all recipients will have to reapply for their payments so as to avoid any delays when receiving your grant

In order to be eligible for the new social grant, beneficiaries must have applied for the previous one. If you have not yet done this and are unsure if your application was rejected or accepted, it is recommended that you check with SASSA before applying again.

SASSA has announced that the first round of applications will open on Monday, 4 April at 12:00 noon and end on Tuesday, 5 April at 11:59 pm.
These social grants include the old age, disability, care dependency and war veterans’ grants.
The following are the SASSA grants that will be paid from April 1, 2022:
- Old Age Grant (OAG) – R356 per month;
- Care Dependency Grant (CDG) – R356 per month; and
- War Veterans’ Pension (WVP) – R200 per month for a single person or R300 for married couples.
All beneficiaries who currently receive a grant must reapply to qualify for the new grant of R350 per month.

However, you must be aware that if your grant application is not successful and you still wish to continue with your education at an approved institution, it will be necessary for you to pay fees and other charges which may range from R100 upwards depending on your circumstances.

- Your application must be signed by the beneficiary and his/her legal guardian if he/she is under 18 years of age or mentally disabled (under 24 years). If you are unable to obtain these documents, you must submit them with your application online.

The completed application must be accompanied by supporting documents such as proof of identity (ID), proof of address and proof of domicile in South Africa at least once every five years or whenever required by law; birth certificate or other ID document is also acceptable if it includes details such as name, address and date of birth – this should be included in your application form too!
