You must be a South African citizen to study nursing.
You need to be registered with the South African Nursing Council and have a valid certificate issued by them. If you are not yet registered, check out our post on how to get registered for free!
You need to have completed a recognised qualification in nursing (Bach BNurs).
Alternatively, if your qualifications are from another country or field but they are similar in content and scope as those offered by South African universities and colleges of education, you may qualify for admission into the program. The only condition is that your qualification has been awarded by an institution that is recognised by SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority).

Bachelor of Nursing Science (B Cur) in Nursing
The Bachelor of Nursing Science (B. Cur.) degree is a highly specialised academic qualification for those who intend to pursue a career as registered nurses in South Africa. The aim of this degree is to produce skilled and knowledgeable graduates who are able to work effectively in various nursing fields across the country. It also aims to build up knowledge in the profession, as well as provide students with an opportunity to enhance their skills and expertise. Students have the option to pursue this course through general, psychiatric or community nursing streams.
Postgraduate Diploma In Advanced Midwifery
This postgraduate diploma programme is offered by some institutions and allows midwives who have attained registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) on completion of their basic tertiary education qualifications such as a BScN Degree, N4 National Certificate or equivalent thereto; or any other qualification deemed acceptable by SANC, advantageously equipped with adequate experience in practice management and leadership at sub-district level; may apply for admission into this programme which will be awarded by SANC upon successful completion thereof
