The nursing requirements at Unisa for the Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Science and to register for this program you are required to have:

You must have graduated high school, and sat for the Matric Exam in South Africa, or if you are from another country you must have passed the relevant exam.

Master of Arts In Nursing Science

The Master of Arts in Nursing Science is a Full Research program open to Professional nurses with an appropriate bachelor honours degree, or also for those who have an appropriate postgraduate diploma in nursing. This program is also open to professional nurses who have completed a 4-year basic nursing degree programme.

Professional nurses with a 4-year basic nursing diploma programme may also apply for this masters program, as well as professional nurses who have completed a 3-year basic nursing diploma, and still have an additional qualification in a post-basic field such as Nursing Education, Community Nursing, Nursing Management, or any clinical field.

Before applying for this program applicants need to be registered with the SA Nursing Council (SANC) or the equivalent professional body in their country of origin. Applicants, who do not meet the above requirements, can apply for a lower level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.

Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Science Health Services Management, Education and Community Health (0216X – HSM)

Requirements for this program include:

Applicants need to have National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of instruction. Applicants can also apply with a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or they may qualify for the exemption from the Matriculation Board if they have at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of instruction.

Applicants must also be registered with the SA Nursing Council (SANC) as a Midwife, or be registered as a Community Health Nurse.

Any applicant who does not meet these qualifications can choose to apply for a lower-level qualification.
