After completing the application process successfully, eligible students will receive a digital wallet with their bursary funds. These students will be notified by email if they are successful and when the full amount of their NSFAS allowance is available in their digital wallet.

How Long Does It Take To Unlock NSFAS Wallet?

The process of unlocking your NSFAS wallet can take up to 6 weeks. However, this isn’t a fixed timeframe as it depends on the advisor’s availability and how fast they can process your application.

You will be notified by email when the funds are available in your account. This means that you should check your email regularly so that you don’t miss the notification sent out by NSFAS.

Once the funds have been released to you and activated, remember to create a unique PIN number for yourself so that no-one else can use them for any reason whatsoever! You also need to set up a user name and password when activating your account, which is necessary if you want access all of its features such as making payments or viewing reports from within MyNSFAS portal itself..

Please note that this process may take up to 10 working days after submission of your completed application.

In order to verify yourself as the rightful owner of this account and withdraw money from it, you will need to visit a participating bank near you with valid identification documents. Once verified, you can access your account through an ATM or bank teller by providing your student ID number and PIN code (if applicable).

  • The student will receive an email notification when the full amount of their NSFAS allowance is available in their digital wallet.
  • If you don’t receive this email within 24 hours, please check your spam or junk folder and mark the message as ‘not junk’. You can also contact us directly by submitting a request on our support centre at https://support.nfsa.mobi/contact-us#uknfsa

To activate your own unique pin number, please follow the steps below:

  • Go to your mailbox and look for an email from NSFAS called “Welcome to your NSFAS Wallet; Your e-wallet is ready to use!”.
  • Click on the link provided in this email. This will take you to a page where you will have to sign in with your username and password that was created when you registered for NSFAS funding. If you don’t remember what these are, please contact us at support@nfas.ac.za or call us at 0800 101 551 (option 1). Please note that if you can’t log in as a result of not having access to any computer or mobile device with internet connection then please feel free contact us on 0800 101 551 (option 1) so they can assist further

First go to your mailbox (i.e. yahoo or Gmail) and look for an email from NSFAS called Welcome to your NSFAS Wallet; Your e-wallet is ready to use! If you do not have access to an email address, the administrator at your university or TVET college will help you with printing the required documents.

Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader (or any other PDF reader software). It will show a list of instructions on how to set up your account in detail. Follow these steps very carefully as they vary from institution to institution and not all institutions follow the same procedure for setting up an account on their platform.

Click on the Activate your NSFAS wallet now link;

You will be redirected to a page where you will be requested to input your ID number (this is the ID number that you used during your application process);

Please follow the prompts thereafter (you will be required to create a User Name, Password and Pin Number).

How long does it take to unlock my NSFAS wallet?

You can activate your NSFAS wallet online or by printing the required documents and submitting them to your institution.

The wallet is activated immediately after activation, but not before the student has been confirmed as a beneficiary. The process takes about 24 hours to complete, and you will receive notification via SMS once it is activated.
