How Do I Know If My NSFAS Application Was Unsuccessful

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a South African government student financial aid scheme tasked with providing financial assistance to poor and working class South African students.

If you are a South African citizen or permanent resident who meets the NSFAS criteria, you may apply for funding through this program.

If your application was successful, you will receive an SMS with details of your allocation; if it was unsuccessful, you will be asked to reapply in the following year by completing a new application form.

To check your NSFAS application status online, go to the NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org and follow the steps listed below:

Go to MyNSFAS app on Google Play store app or Apple Store app on your phone; Enter your registration number in box provided; Press submit button; You will see “Your Results” text box appear – here is where you should get information about whether your application has been successful or not:

How Do I Know If My NSFAS Application Was Unsuccessful

You’ll know that your application was unsuccessful when you receive a letter from NSFAS telling you so.

If this happens, don’t panic. The first thing to do is contact the university or college where you applied for funding and find out if there are any available bursaries or scholarships that you may be eligible for. If not, try applying again next year!

You can check your NSFAS application status online on the NSFAS website and also download the MyNSFAS app to check your results.

The MyNSFAS app is available for Android, IOS and Blackberry. If you are unsuccessful in getting a bursary, ensure that you reapply before the closing date of May 31st 2022.

You will be given an opportunity to submit another application if necessary with any changes made to your circumstances (i.e., new income).

To check your NSFAS application status online, go to the NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org and follow the steps listed below:

  • Click on the “Check your status” button.
  • Enter your student number (found on the acknowledgement letter received from NSFAS) and click on “Submit” button.

If your application was successful, you will receive an SMS with details of your allocation.

The SMS will inform you of the amount that has been approved and what you need to do next.

If your application was unsuccessful, then you will not receive this message.

If you are unsuccessful, you will be asked to reapply in the following year by completing a new application form.

You can only apply for NSFAS funding once but you can also apply for loans from other sources such as banks and credit unions. Some schools have their own bursaries and scholarships that you can apply for during the application process.

To check if you were successful, follow these steps:

  • Download the MyNSFAS App on your phone.
  • Open the app and log in using your student number and password.
  • Click on “MyNSFAS” in the top left corner of the screen to open your profile page.
  • On this page will be a button called “Check Your Application Status”; click on it to begin checking if you have been successful or not!
