Digital marketing degrees are becoming increasingly popular in South Africa, as more and more companies look to hire digital marketers. If you’re thinking about going into digital marketing, here’s everything you need to know about the different types of degrees and what they can offer you.

Full registration fees for international students are calculated by multiplying the tuition fee for each course by the number of academic credits in that course. A minimum academic year consists of 30 credits in total. The full registration fee is calculated on an annual basis, in advance and payable before classes start at UCT Graduate School Informal & Continuing Education learning centres (GSCIEC). Payment can be made via bank transfer or by cheque drawn on a South African bank account only.

Application

The application process to study a Digital Marketing Degree at the University of Cape Town, South Africa is simple. Applying for a study abroad program can be done online and takes only a few minutes to complete.

The application fee is $250 USD (or R3 000) payable by credit card or cheque. We will also need this information:

  • your name, address and contact information;
  • your passport number; and
  • details of two referees who can provide written verification of any academic achievements you have achieved to date (such as GMAT scores). The referees must be aware that they are acting as referees in support of your application for admission into this degree program at USQ Business School South Africa.

Acceptance rate

We’re sorry to say that the acceptance rate for this degree program is very low. According to our research, only 7% of applicants are accepted into the program each year. This means you should not expect to be accepted; however, if you do get in (or even if you don’t), don’t be too disappointed or surprised.

While most people will be disappointed if they find out they have been rejected by their dream school, there are some who may be so crushed by rejection that they never apply again. You don’t want to fall into this category! If you have been rejected from Digital Marketing Degrees South Africa and are feeling discouraged, remember: it happens—everyone gets rejected at some point in their lives! It’s not a reflection of who you are or what your chances at success will be like in other areas of life (unless your future plans involve working at Digital Marketing Degree South Africa).

Requirements

The minimum requirement for admission to the BCom is a minimum of a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or a National Certificate (NC). The applicant should also have at least 50% on the NSC or NC. However, if you have less than 5%, you can still apply to study in the second year of your degree. If you have 30%, you can still study but will be required to complete additional assignments during the first year of your degree and will not be able to progress to your third year until these are completed satisfactorily

Duration

  • The duration of the degree is determined by how many semesters you will be doing and how many classes are offered in each semester.
  • Most courses are offered on a weekly basis, so you need to consider how many weeks there are in a semester and if they have any holidays during that time.
  • Depending on the school, some courses may be offered every day or just once per week (this is rare).

Modules & Syllabus

The modules are the same for all students, but the syllabus may vary depending on the course. Modules include:

  • Digital Marketing Fundamentals
  • Digital Marketing Technology and Data Analytics
  • Social Media Marketing and SEO
  • Content Marketing Strategies

Electives

You can also choose to take electives at a higher level than the core curriculum. Electives are optional, and they are taken in addition to the core curriculum, which is a fundamental part of your degree. Electives may be used as substitutes for certain core courses or as additional choices within them.

Elective options include:

  • Professional Practice
  • Digital Marketing Strategy (this course will be offered from 2020)
  • Digital Media Analytics (this course will be offered from 2020)
  • Social Media Management (this course will be offered from 2020)

Early career

The best way to get a job is to get experience. However, as a new graduate, you may not have any experience in the field of digital marketing. That doesn’t mean you can’t find work though!

You can still get a job if you don’t have any experience by volunteering at an organization that uses digital marketing or doing an internship (or both). This will give your employer confidence in your ability and allow them to see how much you’ve learned during your studies.
